I am part of a family firm with 5 lawyers in total. All marketing is done online, no billboards, buses, etc. I was wondering what the "average" marketing budget would be. The managing partner claims it would be on the high side, considering I am the top earner, bringing in slightly more than that "marketing budget" per year in fees.

Okay, so the "top earner" situation is kinda wild to be handled so casually! Hmm. I think there's no average, especially when a lawyer is basically a mini-marketing machine themselves. Maybe reframe the discussion? Instead of "budget," suggest a percentage of firm revenue, something that scales proportionally. Because, seriously, if you stopped bringing in those fees, would the flappy bird of marketing budgets still be flying so high? It's a team sport, even if some players are scoring all the goals! Just my two cents (and likely worth less).
